New LTO chief is expert in the job

TARLAC CITY – Newly designated Land Transportation Office (LTO) chief Virginia Torres, the former head of the Registration section of LTO Tarlac City, is not new to the job, since she knows well the job in the agency being risen from the ranks.

Ate Gie, as fondly called by friends in the LTO, was appointed by President Benigno "Noynoy" Aquino III last Thursday to head the agency. This drew praises from the LTO personnel in the region who knew Torres’ capabilities, sincerity on the job,  credibility, and integrity.

Bataan LTO Licensing chief Manny D. Jose said, “Ms. Torres deserves the position since she rose from the ranks, [she is] very familiar [with] the job, and she knows all the problems and remedies of the agency...to further improve its service to the public. The President did not err in choosing Ms. Torres [for] the sensitive job.”

Torres was appointed as head of the LTO in Tarlac City a few years after the agency became the center of scandal and intrigue brought about by the discovery of the multimillion-peso scam of registration of a number of smuggled imported vehicles. Since the assumption of Torres, the agency has been smoothly raising its revenue for the government coffers.

Rene Macalisang, head of LTO in Baler, Aurora, describes the new LTO chief as low profile but highly skilled in the job. “Kasa-kasama pa namin noon si Ms. Torres na nanghuhuli sa daan ng mga colorum [vehicles] at [traffic] violators; magaling siya and she is the right person to handle the job....”

Torres said she cannot commit anything except to further improve the LTO service for the betterment of the public.

“Ako wala akong maiko-commit, 'di gaya ng iba na magaling mangako, kundi pagbubutihin ko lang ang aking trabaho para di tayo masira sa Pangulong Noynoy at sa publiko,” added Torres.
